Icehotel Sweden 2010 - 2011

4 days / 3 nights, Jukkasjärvi / Swedish Lapland | The winter season 2009/2010 will be the twentieth in order for ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi. A twenty-year journey from an Igloo of 60 square meters to the world's largest hotel of ice and snow at about 5500 square meters. The anniversary season will be highlighted throughout the winter, a celebration which we invite all our guests to participate in.

A stay in the ICEHOTEL is the ultimate Winter Adventure! Sculpted from ice and snow, this incredible work of art, set in the heart of Swedish Lapland, provides the base for a truly unusual winter break. ICEHOTEL, now in its twentieth year, is continuing its success as the world's biggest hotel made entirely of ice and snow.

Ten thousand years ago, glaciers carved a riverbed and the Torne River was born. Since then, the crystal-clear, pure water of the Torne River has flowed freely along its 600-kilometer path through Lapland out to the sea in the southeast.

The entire ICEHOTEL is on loan from the mighty Torne River and is a place where time stands still. Just a short period before, fish swam in the water and the river was a crashing torrent of whitewater, wild and frothing. And very soon, when the spring comes and then finally the summer, the rooms, the suites, the bar, the reception, in fact the entire creation, will once again become part of the rushing rapids coursing toward the sea. Jukkasjärvi, a small, quaint village in Swedish Lapland, lies 200 km north of the Arctic Circle by the River Torne. 400 years ago, Jukkasjärvi was a popular meeting place for Lapland's settlers and hunters. Jukkasjärvi in Sami (Lappish) means "meeting place", which is what the former Sami village has been for half a millennium. Today, it is home to the world's largest igloo - the incredible ICEHOTEL - where a beautifully ornamented suite has been reserved exclusively for you! Inside the hotel, you'll also find an Art gallery, Ice bar, Cinema and Chapel. The Ice Church is a consecrated room of snow and ice in which church services, weddings and christenings take place. Since the winter of 2003 the "Ice Globe Theatre" - a replica of Shakespeare's "Globe Theatre" on the Thames in London - added a new chapter of beauty and magic to the ICEHOTEL.
