Day 1 ARRIVAL KEFLAVIK - REYKJAVIK Arrival and overnight in Reykjavik (transfer from international airport not included).
Day 2 GOLDEN CIRCLE - GULLFOSS - GEYSIR (B) In the morning head from Reykjavik towards Thingvellir National Park, a place of great geological and historical interest. Here the Viking world comes alive with a good imagination. Next stops is the Geysir hot spring area and the impressive Gullfoss "Golden" waterfall, both must-see sites in Iceland. Before heading to the south for the overnight stay a sightseeing stop at the Kerid crater will complete the day. Approximate mileage: 300 km / 186 miles.

Day 3 SOUTH SHORE - SKAFTAFELL - JÖKULSARLON - HÖFN (B) Drive along the south shore, enjoy a spectacular experience by walking behind the Seljalandsfoss waterfall and view the thundering Skogafoss waterfall. The black sand beaches around Vík are a unique attraction with the Atlantic Ocean waves breaking away. Myrdalsjökull glacier as well as the Vatnajokull glacier, Europe's largest glacier, will stay in your view as your drive along the south coast. Explore Skaftafell National Park, a lush green oasis. At the end of the day the mystical Glacial Lagoon of Jökulsarlon will capture your attention in a big way. Approximate mileage: 350 km / 217 miles.

Day 4 HÖFN - DJUPIVOGUR - REYDARFJORDUR - HALLORMSTADUR FOREST (B)
Drive along the rugged coastline of the East Fjords with their towering mountains and charming fishing villages. On the way you have the option of taking a boat tour to Papey Island where thousands of puffins nest in the summer or visit the famous stone collection of Petra at Stödvarfjördur. The day ends in the beautiful forested area of Hallormsstadur. Approximate mileage: 280 km / 174 miles.

Day 5 EGILSTADIR - MYVATN - AKUREYRI (B) Travel across Mödrudalsöræfi highlands renowned for their stark beauty. Explore highlights of the Lake Myvatn area, including the mystical volcanic formations at Dimmuborgir, the pseudo craters at Skutustadir, the colorful sulfurous slopes of Namaskard and Krafla volcanic area. Drive to Godafoss waterfall "Of the Gods" and to the capital of the north Akureyri for the next two nights. Approximate mileage: 300 km / 186 miles.

Day 6 AKUREYRI (B) Day at Leisure in Akureyri and Surroundings. Enjoy the comfort of a two night stay in Akureyri and explore the numerous attractions in and around Akureyri. The beautiful capital of the north has much to offer such as a stroll in the Botanical Gardens, a swim in the local thermal pool or a visit to the Christmas House. Whale watching from the nearby village of Dalvik is worth the visit, and so is a visit to the charming island of Hrisey. From Akureyri it is also possible to visit the island of Grimsey, the only place in Iceland situated directly on the Arctic Circle. Mileage variable.

Day 7 AKUREYRI - BORGARNES - HVALFJORDUR - REYKJAVIK (B) Drive through the historical region of Skagafjördur renowned for horse breeding. You may opt to visit the charming old farmstead at Glaumbær a great example of Icelandic architecture from the past. Continue to the bay of Hunafloi and across Holtavörduheidi plateau, and enter the Borgarfjördur area. Return to Reykjavik in the evening.
Another option is to travel across the barren Kjölur highland road (4WD needed, track open from mid-June), to the geothermal oasis at Hveravellir before driving to Reykjavik. Approximate mileage: 390 km / 242 miles
