Discover first-hand the colorful capital of Reykjavik with a sightseeing tour experiencing the city's energetic vibe through top visitor attractions like the visually stunning Harpa Concert Hall and Parliament on bustling Austurvollur Square while enjoying panoramic views from the city's main landmark, Hallgrimskirkja church. Uncover a wonderful mix of old and new exploring the Scandinavian charms preserved in colorful buildings of the old town center, and the modernity of the trendy downtown harbor district.

Depart Reykjavik and travel northwest via an undersea tunnel through Hvalfjordur (Whale Bay). Head to the friendly town of Akranes to visit the local Museum Centre, which preserves a comprehensive collection of geological and maritime exhibits. Afterwards, climb to the top of a lighthouse to enjoy spectacular views of the wild coastline.

Experience a bit of Iceland's unique folklore at Fossatun Troll Gardens with a hike along a Troll Trail dotted with informative signs, ogress statues and feats of strength set against the magnificent backdrop of Troll Falls and Grimsa River (only included in departures in March and April 2017)

Head onwards to the bubbling waters of Deildartunguhver, Europe's most powerful hot spring, which provides heating for most of the homes and businesses in the area. Nourish your thirst for culture at Reykholt, which holds an important role as the home of renowned Icelandic Saga writer and medieval scholar Snorri Sturluson. The day ends with a scenic visit to a duo of exceptionally beautiful and unique waterfalls at Hraunfoss and Barnafoss. Each waterfall has a mysterious secret to reveal. Overnight in Borgarnes area.

Evening northern lights Hunt: Due to the location in West Iceland away from light pollution, your group is in a prime position to hunt for the luminescent green light show that Vikings believed were Valkyries riding across the sky.

Day 3 STYKKISHOLMUR - SNÆFELSSNESS PENINSULA - BORGARNES (B) Boat Tour - Snaefellsnes National Park & Glacier

From the delightful town of Stykkisholmur embark on an adventurous sail in Breidafjordur Bay (UNESCO) to encounter thousands of tiny islands and experience "Viking Sushi", a sampling of sea scallops, urchin, and crab drawn onto the boat straight from the refreshing Icelandic waters.

Along the rugged coastline of Snaefellsnes Peninsula we encounter hidden away fishing villages like Grundarfjordur with its landmark Kirkjufell Mountain and surrounding fjord teeming with herring and orca whales, and Hellnar with a year-round population of less than ten residents, as well as the picturesque harbor village of Arnarstapi to walk among the columnar basalt rock formation and mighty sea cliffs. Throughout the day we enjoy the remote tranquility of Snæfellsnes National Park which exhibits an astonishing variety in natural landscapes from moss blanketed lava fields and pebbled beaches to imposing cliffs and the palpable force of Snaefellsjokull glacier-volcano which last erupted in 250 AD.

Evening Northern Lights Hunt: If weather conditions the night before were unfavorable we hunt again for the elusive Aurora Borealis. Ideal meteorological conditions include a clear sky with icy temperatures and preferably no moon. Overnight at Icelandair Hotel Hamar in Borgarnes.

Day 4 THINGVELLIR NATIONAL PARK - GULLFOSS - GEYSIR (B) Golden Circle of Natural Wonders - Tasting at Dairy Farm - Hveragerdi Greenhouse Village - Fakasel Horse Park

Iceland's Golden Circle showcases a trio of celebrated natural attractions including the dramatic Gullfoss waterfall and the geothermal fields of Geysir Hot Spring Area alive with boiling mud pits, steam vents, and exploding geysers.

The Golden Circle's centerpiece is UNESCO-listed Thingvellir National Park, where Viking settlers established an assembly in AD 930 which has evolved into the world's oldest parliament today. Thingvellir also holds geological significance, as it marks the visible site of the mid-Atlantic Ridge where the North American and Eurasian continental plates meet.

Following the road through the fertile countryside, stop to enjoy some local flavors at Efstidalur dairy farm, which specializes in homemade skyr, an organic Greek-style yogurt that has been enjoyed as a breakfast staple and dessert treat in Iceland since Viking times.

The journey continues to Hveragerdi, the charming gateway town to South Iceland set in a highly active geothermal area where pillars of steam rise up from the ground year round. Hveragerdi has the largest concentration of greenhouses in Iceland; residents provide the country with much of its home-grown produce, including exotic papayas and bananas. In the evenings, the lighted greenhouses give the town of Hveragerdi a distinctive glow.

End your day by visiting Fakasel Icelandic Horse Park to enjoy Legends of Sleipnir, a unique multi-media production showcasing the role Icelandic horses have influenced the country's history and culture. Afterwards you can go onto the stage to meet the equine actors.
Overnight at Hotel Örk in Hveragerdi.

Included: Visit to an Icelandic farm and a taste of homemade skyr yogurt, ice cream and meat / Visit to Fakasel horse riding centre for a "horse theatre" performance, an amazing 45-minute show in a unique environment.

Highlights: Gullfoss / Geysir / Thingvellir / Hveragerdi

Day 5 REYKJANES - BLUE LAGOON - REYKJAVIK (B) Reykjanes Seacoast - Blue Lagoon - Reykjavik

Traveling along the breathtaking seacoast of Reykjanes Peninsula we visit Strandarkirkja, a small wooden church popularly believed to radiate special powers for increased luck and success. Although the church is typical of rural Iceland, it is built right into the coast with amazing views of the turbulent ocean meeting with volcanic rocks and black sands. Look for a quaint set of painted elf houses nestled in the churchyard grounds.

Drive to Lake Kleifarvatn, set in fascinating, stark, moon-like surroundings. Near the lake's southern end lies Krysuvik, where powerful jets of steam escape from deep below the earth's crust and sulphurous steam rises from numerous geothermal vents. You can see numerous small hot springs, mud pots, boiling pools and other types of geothermal activity. Continue under low mountains along the shoreline to stop by craggy cliffs rising sheer from the sea. Proceed to the town of Grindavik with its sizeable fishing fleet. After a lunch stop in Grindavik (lunch is on your own), head for the nearby Blue Lagoon.

End today's sightseeing with a visit to the world-renowned Blue Lagoon. Set in a black lava field, this geothermal spa is a lagoon filled with warm mineral-rich seawater that provides the ultimate interaction and relaxation with Iceland's raw nature.

Bathe in the lagoon and enjoy a sauna with lagoon views, a cozy steam-bath carved into a lava cave, and an energizing geothermal massage waterfall. Be on the lookout for white buckets located throughout the lagoon which contain the famous silica-mud. Rub some of this onto your skin to soften it, an essential part of the Blue Lagoon spa experience.

Return to Reykjavik where the evening is at your own leisure.

Included: Blue lagoon bathing fee for departures in fall 2016 and onwards.

Highlights: Reykjanes / The Blue Lagoon
