Day 1 ARRIVAL KEFLAVIK - REYKJAVIK Kjölur South to North

Saturday
Individual transfer with Flybus from Keflavik Airport to your hotel in Reykjavik (included in price). Welcome meeting at Ishestar riding center where you meet your fellow riders. Pick up for the welcome meeting at 18:00 at included hotel.

Day 2 REYKJAVIK - THINGVELLIR - GEYSIR - GULLFOSS (B, L, D) Sunday
Departure from your hotel in the morning. Please dress already in riding clothes. We drive to Kjoastadir Farm, visiting the historical site Thingvellir and the well-known Geysir Hot Spring Area on our way. The ride starts off towards the majestic glacier Langjökull onto Haukadalsheidi heath and our first stop is at the beautiful Gullfoss waterfall. We leave the horses at Sanda River for the night and drive to Kjoastadir farm, where we spend the night. (20 km/12 mi)

Day 3 KJOASTADIR - SANDA - ARBUDIR (B, L, D) Monday
Our ride continues along the slopes of Mt. Blafell. This area was roamed by outlaws in the old days. To be on the save side you might want to take a little stone along today as a special token for safety during the ride. You might need it later today... We cross River Hvita and enjoy the view to the glacier fed lake Hvitarvatn with its floating icebergs. Tonight we stay at Arbudir, right at the banks of river Svarta. (45 km/28 mi)

Day 4 ARBUDIR - HVERAVELLIR MT. CABIN (B, L, D) Tuesday
We ride along the glacier fed river Fulakvisl through huge rugged lava fields of Kjalhraun where we hear a tragic story about two brothers who froze to death in October 1780 on their way to Skagafjördur with a flock of sheep. During the ride we enjoy splendid views of the glacier Langjökull.

We continue with the herd into the world of Thjofadalir, or Valley of Thieves, a grassy valley surrounded by high mountains, a true oasis in the wilderness. On to Hveravellir, a unique geothermal area between Hofsjökull and Langjökull glaciers. A natural hot pool invites us to a deserved relaxing bath. (50 km/31 mi)

Day 5 HVERAVELLIR - STRANGAKVISL MOUNTAIN CABIN (B, L, D) Wednesday
This day will be a very special one, since we cross the large glacial rivers, Blanda, Svartakvisl and Strangakvisl on our way to the North. No need to worry, most Icelanders would rather choose a trusted Icelandic horse than a vehicle to cross a river! The location of tonight's mountain cabin offers great views of the big glaciers behind you and towards the high mountains of the North ahead of you. Up to mid July the sun hardly sets in this part of the country. (22 km/14 mi)

Day 6 STRANGAKVISL - GALTARA MOUNTAIN CABIN (B, L, D) Thursday
Today it is easy to see that we follow a historical route. All the way back to the early settlement of Iceland, people travelled on horseback on exactly the same trails as we do today. From the mountain cabin Galtara we can overlook the big man-made lake Blönduvatn. In August this is a perfect spot for berry picking (22 km/14 mi)

Day 7 GALTARA - ADALMANNSVATN - LAUFTUN (B, L, D) Friday
We descend past beautiful Lake Adalmannsvatn towards the fertile Mælifellsdalur valley in the Skagafjördur area. In good weather conditions you can see all the way to the Atlantic Ocean at the North coast. Good riding tracks give you the opportunity to enjoy a fast ride in the soft tölt! We end the day at Lauftún Holiday Farm, where we have a chance to take a walk to the charming swimming pool in Varmahlid. (42 km/26 mi)

Day 8 LAUFTUN - REYKJAVIK (B) Saturday
Transfer back to Reykjavik for the last overnight stay. Approx. return to Reykjavik at 14:00.

Day 9 REYKJAVIK DEPARTURE (B) Sunday
Breakfast at your guesthouse. Transfer by bus to Keflavik Airport in time for the return flight home.

Day 1 ARRIVAL REYKJAVIK Kjolur North to South

Saturday
Individual transfer with Flybus from Keflavik Airport to your hotel in Reykjavik (included in price). Welcome meeting at Ishestar riding center where you meet your fellow riders. Pick up for the welcome meeting at 18:00 at included hotel.

Day 2 REYKJAVIK - NORTH ICELAND - GALTARA (B, L, D) Sunday
Departure from your hotel in the morning. Please dress already in riding clothes. Transfer in the morning from Reykjavik to the North of Iceland where staff and horses are waiting. Today is our first riding day and long one as well. We ride through the fertile Mælifellsdalur valley and ascend up to the mountain plateau Eyvindastadaheidi. We ride round beautiful Lake Adalmannsvatn on soft trails and enjoy the splendid view we have of the highland mountains around us. We stay overnight at the mountain cabin Galtara, overlooking the huge man-made lake Blönduvatn. In August this is the perfect spot for berry picking. (30 km/19 mi)

Day 3 GALTARA - STRANGAKVISL MT. CABIN (B, L, D) Monday
Today it is easy to see that we follow a historical route since large man-made stone cones accompany us through a desert of sand and stones. All the way through the centuries back to the early settlement of Iceland, people travelled on horseback on exactly the same trails as we do today. The location of Strangakvisl Mountain Cabin offers superb views over the glaciers in front of us. Up to mid-July the sun hardly sets in this part of the country. (22 km/14 mi)

Day 4 STRANGAKVISL - HVERAVELLIR MT. CABIN (B, L, D) Tuesday
This day will be a very special one, since we cross the large glacial rivers, Strangakvisl, Svartakvisl and Blanda on our way south. But no need to worry, most Icelanders would rather choose a trusted Icelandic horse than a jeep to cross rivers like that! We continue to Hveravellir, a unique geothermal area between the glaciers Hofsjökull and Langjökull. A natural hot pool invites us to a deserved relaxing bath. (22 km/ 14 mi)

Day 5 HVERAVELLIR - ARBUDIR MT. CABIN (B, L, D) Wednesday
This day will be a very special one, since we cross the large glacial rivers, Strangakvísl, Svartakvísl and Blanda on our way south. But no need to worry, most Icelanders would rather choose a trusted Icelandic horse than a jeep to cross rivers like that. We continue to Hveravellir, a unique geothermal area between the glaciers Hofsjökull and Langjökull. A natural hot pool invites us to a deserved relaxing bath. (22 km/14 mi)

Day 6 ARBUDIR - KJOASTADIR FARM (B, L, D) Thursday
We follow river Svarta for a while before crossing the river Hvita. Our ride continues along the slopes of Mt. Blafell. During the last centuries, travelling through the remote highland was a dangerous trip due to outlaws waiting to rob the riders. No wonder superstition was a common thing. We leave the horses behind and drive to Kjoastadir Farm where we spend the next two nights. (45 km/28 mi)

Day 7 KJOASTADIR - GULLFOSS - GEYSIR (B, L, D) Friday
We saddle up again and ride to majestic Gullfoss waterfall, following the canyon, which was created by water, for parts of the ride. After we return the horses to their home meadows at Kjoastadir Farm we have time to explore the Geysir hot spring area. (20 km/12 mi)

Day 8 KJOASTADIR - THINGVELLIR - REYKJAVIK (B) Saturday
We say good-bye to our guides and return back to Reykjavik. On our drive back to Reykjavik for the last overnight stay we visit the historical site Thingvellir, Iceland's first National Park. Approx. arrival at 13:00.

Day 9 REYKJAVIK DEPARTURE (B) Sunday
