Day 2 - 4 HUNTING FOR MOOSE - ELG (B, L, D) The local team will pick up the hunter/hunters at the hotel each morning. The team members will have a short meeting, discussing the strategies for the days hunt.
After the morning hunt the team gathers for lunch around the cozy camp fire. Time to reflect on excitement of the morning hunt. The guest hunters will enjoy and share the traditions of a truely Norwegian moose hunt. The team will extend a warm welcome to the guests with a hot cup of coffee, freshly brewed over the fire and served in the traditional birch cups. Homemade moose burgers made are roasted over the fire, sandwiches are toasted and many stories are told. The guest hunters will experience being a welcomed member of the team!
Early afternoon is time for the afternoon hunt. The guests can decide who is going to walk with the guide and the dog, and who will post in strategic places. When a moose is shot, all hunting stops, the team brings in the equipment to retrieve the moose, transport and prepare it for slaughtering. At the end of the days hunt you will be return to the Gard.
The estate has hunting license for more than 100 moose. Some of these are reserved for guests staying at Holmen Gård.
Normally we use loose barking dogs, and the hunting party consists of one hunter and a guide with one or more dogs. When the dog locates moose, the dog will start barking and keep the moose still, allowing the hunter to approach and hopefully succeed in shooting the moose. If requested, we can combine the use of dogs with posting if some of the hunters want to hunt in the same part of the estate. During the day, the guide will make coffee on a fire in the forest. The lunch consists of homemade beefburgers made from moose, sandwiches and mineral water.
If a moose or deer is shot, our employees will transport it back to Holmen Gård. The estate retains the meat, but the hunter keeps the trophy if a bull is shot.
