Day 1 ARRIVAL REYKJAVIK
On your own, transfer to Reykjavik. We recommend the easy and convenient FlyBus Plus transfers, which can be booked through Iceland Travel. If your flight lands early in the day, a great suggestion is to explore Reykjavik, the largest municipality in Iceland.
Ingolfur Arnarson, the first settler of Iceland, built his farm on the peninsula where Reykjavik stands today. The town got its name "Smokey Bay" after the columns of steam that rose from the hot springs in the area and made such a deep impression on the first settlers.
Dinner is on your own. Reykjavik offers a multitude of restaurants and/or coffee-houses, making dinner a great way to get better acquainted with Iceland's capital.
Please note guaranteed early check-in is not included in the price. Most hotels begin check-in around 14:00 (2:00pm). Overnight stay in Reykjavik (airport transfer not included). Dinner is on own.
Highlights: Reykjavik | Perlan | Parliament House | Reykjavik Art Museum
Optional: Airport transfer with Flybus Plus | Airport transfer: Arrival via Blue Lagoon | Blue Lagoon Entrance and Extras
Day 2 ILULISSAT - UNESCO HERITAGE SIGHT (B, D)
Morning Flight to Greenland - Walking Tour of Ilulissat
Breakfast at your hotel. Assisted transfer to Reykjavik domestic airport in the morning and flight to Greenland. Arrive around noon to the picturesque town of Ilulissat. It has a beautiful location at the mouth of a long Icefjord, filled with enormous icebergs from the most productive glacier in the northern hemisphere.
A guide from Greenland will welcome you at the airport and take you to the hotel. After check-in at the hotel, you will get a short introduction to your tours in Greenland and optional activities you might book. Afterwards you will enjoy approx. 2 hours walking tour in the centre of the town with a local guide and learn about modern life close to the Arctic Circle. Return back at the hotel for a welcome dinner.
Day 3 EQI GLACIER (B)
Boat Tour - Glacier and Incredible Icebergs
Breakfast at your hotel. Today you get a pick up in the morning for a full day tour to the Eqi glacier (sail is 6-12 hours, depending on the boat used). Very few places in Greenland are as beautiful as the Eqi glacier, thrusting out in a fjord north of Ilulissat. Sail to the very edge of the glacier's frontline rising 80-90 meters (262 to 296 feet) above the surface of the ocean.
Enjoy lunch on board, surrounded by majestic ice bergs. Through the cruise, watch big chunks of heavy ice break off the glacier and tremble intensely into the water. The sight and sound of icebergs shattering is impressive. Afterwards you will be driven back to the hotel. Dinner is on your own.
Day 4 OLD SETTLEMENTS (B)
Morning Hiking Tour - Afternoon free at leisure
In the morning, hike to the remains of the old settlement Sermermiut, situated by the Ice-fjord. Listen to stories about life and customs of the Greenlanders before the arrival of Europeans while enjoying incredible views of the icebergs. The hike is about 2 hours, easy level.
The afternoon is open for your own activities, such as visiting local museums. Numerous optional excursions are also available (booked and paid in Greenland). Farewell dinner at the hotel.
Optional (at extra cost): Boat tour viewing the icebergs | Helicopter flight across the ice-fjord
Day 5 TRAVEL DAY (B)
Morning at leisure, afternoon flight to Iceland
The morning is free for own explorations. Enjoy the vistas of beautiful icebergs in the fjord or complete any final shopping for tupilaks other handicraft souvenirs. Transfer to the airport in Ilulissat and flight to Reykjavik, followed by a transfer to your hotel. Overnight stay in Reykjavik. Dinner is on your own.
Day 6 DEPARTURE REYKJAVIK (B)
Transfer to the airport not included. We would be happy to book it for you. We recommend departing your hotel no later than 3 hours before your international flight.
If you did not visit the Blue Lagoon on your arrival day, you might use the opportunity to stop there now on your way to the airport.
Highlights: Harpa Concert Hall | Hafnarfjordur | Keflavik
Optional: Airport transfer with Flybus Plus | Airport transfer: Blue Lagoon upon departure | Blue Lagoon Entrance and Extras
